Hold onto your straw hats, because Oda is absolutely cooking this week! The early spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1178 have just dropped courtesy of OnePieceFeed, and they are packed with massive lore drops, epic clashes, and a cliffhanger that will leave the community buzzing.
The chapter is ominously titled "It was a Nightmare," and judging by the events that unfold, that title is perfectly fitting. Let's break down everything happening in this wild chapter.
Kid Returns on the Cover
Before we dive into the heavy stuff, the cover story gives us a quick glimpse of Eustass Kid. He appears alongside a bull, which might just be a fun aesthetic choice by Oda, but it’s always good to see Kid up and about after his devastating encounter with Shanks!
The Battle for Elbaph: Luffy & Loki vs. Imu
The chapter throws us right back into the chaos. Luffy kicks things off by strategically moving Brook and Usopp out of harm's way, tossing them over to Sanji’s group. This clears the stage for the real heavy hitters.
Meanwhile, Loki is going on the offensive against the supreme ruler of the world, Imu. At first, Imu effortlessly dodges all of Loki's attacks. But when Luffy jumps back into the fray, things take a dark turn. Imu transforms into a terrifying, shadowy "black shape" form—heavily reminiscent of what we saw from Saint Saturn back at God Valley.
In a shocking move, Imu manages to stab both Luffy and Loki with this dark body and unleashes a technique called "Domi Reversi." But in true Shonen fashion, the attack completely fails to faze them! Capitalizing on the moment, our heroes launch a massive counterattack: Luffy unleashes a brutal Gatling, while Loki (now in his human form wielding Ragnir) lands a massive freezing attack directly on Imu.
The Aftermath and Disappearances
The combined assault seems to do the trick or at least, forces a retreat. Imu's shadowy form mysteriously vanishes from the ice, leaving the battlefield behind. With the immediate threat gone, it looks like the situation on Elbaph is finally returning to normal.
But of course, this is One Piece, and every answered question brings three new mysteries:
The Empty Library: Saul and Robin finally arrive at the library, presumably hoping to uncover lost history. Instead, they find a chilling scene: there are absolutely no books, and the mysterious owl has vanished without a trace.
Zoro & Chopper Clean Up: Over on the other side of the battlefield, Zoro’s group is on the verge of entirely defeating the Domi Reversi army. Chopper swoops in just in time to help finish off the remaining stragglers.
The Sommers Mystery: We get a brief update on "Sommers," who is currently recovering. The spoilers drop a massive, eerie hint here: it looks like he doesn't have a human heart. What exactly is Sommers, and who created him?
The Cliffhanger: Imu Makes a Move
By the end of the chapter, the adrenaline wears off. The sheer toll of fighting Imu catches up to Luffy, and he reverts back to his exhausted, old-man form, completely drained of energy.
But the biggest bombshell drops in the final panels. Back in Mary Geoise, Imu gathers the Gorosei and drops a line that is going to shake the world to its core: "Mu will leave the castle for a short time." (Imu referring to themselves as "Mu"). The King of the World is finally stepping off the Empty Throne and making a move in person!
The best news of all? There is NO BREAK next week! We are diving straight into the fallout of Imu's departure.
